I (Denise) started my path to Wellness when I was 19 years old. This was due to getting bad headaches from eating pastries and simple carbs.  I was introduced to a way of eating called Macrobiotics. This method of eating embraces whole foods, varieties of grains and beans, sea vegetables, fruits and fish. I was attending art school at the time and decided to change my schooling to studying at the Kushi Institute in Brookline in Massachusetts. I lived in the ‘Macrobiotic Community in a ‘study house’, working in a Macrobiotic Restaurant, called Open Sesame and going to school. I know if I had not changed my way of eating I would now (in my 40’s) have some health challenges. I like everyone else indulged in sugar, processed food and so on. The longer my commitment to my well being took root, the better and more alert I was feeling. From time to time I indulged but I discovered that my taste buds where changing so I began to enjoy healthier choices when it came to ‘fun food’. From here my world of exploration took hold in the world of wellness & spirituality,  I did yoga, some shiatsu, and studied self-help for my emotional self and reading spiritual books, questing for truth and growth.

After our daughter Teshna was born, I began studying raw foods and an alkaline diet. A few years later I began teaching raw foods classes for three years in Scottsdale Arizona.  I soon discovered that Teshna was getting protein deficient and my digestion was getting worse with 100% raw. We explored raw protein in meat, fish and milk, which helped bring our body into balance for 1 year. Then we began eating an 'integrative diet' that is Macrobiotic, some raw, some raw protein and occasionally some 'fun foods'(healthy treats). 

My husband, James had his own transformation toward wellness occur, 10 years ago from being too stressed. He decided to quit smoking & drinking after 30 years. He found hypnotherapy to calm his mind and physical workouts to release his stress. Over the past four years he has eliminated soda, coffee and over indulging in sugar. His health has improved and no longer has the headaches he used to. James has also made a deeper commitment to his spiritual well being and transformation.

So this is why we were inspired to have a wellness page, to invite you to explore and discover what could contribute to your wellness and becoming whole. Please keep in mind these are only suggestions and not recommendations for you medically. It is best to consult your doctor for that.  We will share what I have found to work and what has been helpful to us.  We are continually exploring & upgrading our path to wellness. Our hope is you too, will be inspired to start or continue on your path to wellness.
