I, Denise Cory NeKrash, have loved stones and rocks from when I was a child up into adulthood. As a 7 year old child, with my family, we used to go camping and hiking quite a bit. I would wear a big t-shirt, knowing I would find rocks that I would consider as “friends” to come home with me. I loved how they felt and looked. I was the only one in my family to do this. I had quite the collection of rocks until we moved.   I guess my mother thought I would not notice and she got rid of what she thought I did not need, (If you are reading this Mom, don’t worry I have forgiven you for not understanding). In my early 20’s I had an opportunity to learn from a Native American Indian Grandmother, the way they taught their children to be in tune with Nature and how they viewed God in all of life. I loved their connection with nature and that we can learn from all of life and that nature is “alive”.  I rekindled my love for stones and crystals over this year of learning.  At that time I didn’t know the meaning of crystals except, that I loved how they felt and looked.

In my thirties I lost touch with this and then in my forties got reconnected. When my husband and I moved up to Hawi on the Big Island five years ago, I visited Star Light with our daughter, Teshna who at the time was 6 years. I loved the feeling of Star Light and found it to be different to the “New Age crystal stores” I had gone to, when I lived in Sedona, Arizona. It didn’t have that “New Age” feeling to it, which to my surprise, was nice. We purchased some crystals that would be helpful for us. I had mentioned to one of the owners that I loved crystals and if they ever needed help, I would be interested in working a couple of days a week. One month later I got a phone call. They told me that they were looking for someone that liked to help people, not a salesperson. Actually that sounded refreshing to me. They trained me on the meaning of the crystals and to follow Guidance of the Light when helping people. I learned a great deal of grounded Spiritual Wisdom's, that they were taught, which has made a huge difference on the quality of life we live and are growing and evolving into. We carry their books, CD’s and Spiritual Figurines in our shop and online store.

After two years, we were offered the opportunity to buy Star Light. It was the Red Obsidian, Labradorite pendant and a large Smokey Quartz point that helped prepare me/us for this opportunity, which I did not have a clue about, except the guidance to get these crystals. You must understand at the time we were offered this, we were in the throes of building our home as “owner/builder” which was very stressful, I had just started home schooling our daughter another big stress.  My husband James, was working full time as a crane operator and we were planning our wedding…So, now looking back, the Red Obsidian, helped me to see what to do and I did it.  The Labradorite Pendant, helped prepare me for stepping into my/our higher destiny and the Smokey Quartz helped me stay realistic and grounded. Whew…we trusted this is what we were meant to do and we did it, with a lot of help from the crystals and our personal Guides of Light and God.

We have carried on the “spirit of how Star Light was started.” To be honest we feel more like the helpers and not the owners. What we mean is that we are a team player and we surrender ourselves to be of service to the Light and the “flow of God”.  Most of our visitors are “Mainstream people”, and this is their first encounter with crystals.  Some find themselves curious with their meaning and that they actually do feel something when they hold them. Many love that they feel relaxed when they come into Star Light. It is a wonderful opportunity to slow down and feel, without life’s distractions. I am so thankful that these crystals were created to help us, just as there are many tools that we have been gifted with to help us as human beings in this “school of life” we are in.  In our family we wear gemstone pendants daily to assist us in our own mastery of ourselves, our life lessons and our soul’s agreements that we committed to.  We have our wonderful crystal ‘friends’ throughout our home and even outside.
